In today’s customer journey, we get to explore one of the most luxurious roofing materials on the market: Cedar Shake!
Alex S reached out to Schaefer Burdett Exteriors after doing extensive research on roofing companies in Northern Virginia that install cedar shake roofs. Alex started the process after realizing his home suffered from storm-related wind damage. Alex reached out to USAA and opened a claim. USAA determined there was indeed wind damage to the existing cedar shakes, and worked with Schaefer Burdett Exteriors to cover the cost of the entire job.
Schaefer Burdett Exteriors knows how to appropriately build and file an itemized claim estimate in the insurance company’s format. This process is often very tedious and confusing. Hiring Schaefer Burdett Exteriors to work with the insurance company will often pay dividends, as we know how to properly build an itemized claim estimate according to the type of damage on the home, and the type of material present. The type and format of the insurance estimate is very different and much more complicated than a standard estimate produced for a homeowner’s review.
Alex’s new cedar shake roof will be completely installed today – the whole job took 3 days start to finish on a roughly 3600 square foot roof with two mansard sections. Cedar shake is certainly more of a financial investment than asphalt shingles, but the look is timeless and classic. Cedar shakes come in medium and heavy thickness, as well as hand-split and machine-cut varieties. On this particular job, we also installed copper valley flashing and counter flashing, giving the home an extra luxurious appearance. The mansard section of the roof really shows off the new shakes from the curb, and will maintain the curb appeal of this beautiful Great Falls home for years to come.
If you’re interested in having a luxury roofing material installed like cedar shake, slate, or synthetic slate, look no further. Schaefer Burdett routinely installs high-end roofing and siding materials around Northern Virginia and our customers are delighted. Schaefer Burdett Exteriors installs all types of roofing, siding, and windows. Please contact us here if you’re interested in a free estimate!
In this edition of Schaefer Burdett’s customer journey, we will be highlighting a townhouse roof replacement. Townhouses are a unique project – they’re often 3-stories high and usually significantly smaller and quicker projects than single family homes. However, many townhouses have unique shapes, pitches, and layouts. This townhouse, as seen in our final drone picture, has an extended back side of the roof, making it larger than the average townhouse roof.
A normal town home roof is roughly 1,000 square feet, accounting for waste during the construction job. According to Cost Vs Value Report, the average cost for a roof replacement in the Great Washington Area is $24,647 for 235 lb fiberglass asphalt shingles for a 3,000 square foot roof. These types of shingles include Certainteed Landmark, GAF Timberline HD, among others.
Breaking the math down, $24,647 into 3,000 square feet results in $8.21 per square foot. This is the cost per square foot to replace a roof in Northern Virginia, on average. If you own a normal townhouse at 1,000 square feet, you’re looking at paying about $8,210 on average. This pricing does not represent Schaefer Burdett’s roofing pricing. In fact, Schaefer Burdett is almost always priced below the national average especially for asphalt roofs. We maintain extremely high quality but have a low-overhead business, resulting in a great value for our customers.
So, if you’re getting door hangers that are advertising “$5,000 per roof!” without having ever been on your roof, measured your roof with an EagleView, or even met you, beware! These types of companies often have limited or zero project management during the job and quality could be questionable. Schaefer Burdett Exteriors prices each roof individually after speaking with our customers in-person, hand-measuring the roof, or ordering a reliable satellite report on the roof size and slope.
If you or anyone you know needs a new roof before we head into the busy fall, please mention the code “CVV” and get $250 off your next project. Schaefer Burdett Exteriors specializes in all types of roofing, siding, windows, and doors. Please contact us here if you’d like a free estimate: https://www.schaeferburdett.com/contact/
Our next customer journey is about Jody
J. in Sterling, VA. Jody reached out to
SBE regarding issues with the roof leaking and possible mold forming on the
decking of the roof. Josh, co-owner of
SBE, conducted a site visit to inspect the issue.
Josh went on the roof to inspect
the initial damage, then went into the adjacent attic to inspect further. After doing a thorough external inspection
Josh came to the conclusion that the roof needed to be replaced. After a full review, Josh informed Jody that
the issue of mold was due to poor ventilation of the roof. Josh also informed Jody that the asphalt shingles
were beyond their usable life and recommended a full roof replacement in order
to provide a comprehensive solution.
One thing worth mentioning about this particular job: SBE was not the cheapest price Jody received. Josh was up front and honest about being more expensive than the other competitor that Jody was meeting with. SBE prices their jobs in a very fair manner and is usually right in the “middle of the pack” with pricing. However, we do not aim or try to be the cheapest. One of the reasons we simply cannot be the cheapest price is due to our extensive hands-on project management approach to exterior projects. A company owner touches every piece of the job – and we stake our reputation on our work. Trust is paramount when hiring a roofing contractor.
Within three weeks of signing up, SBE started the roofing job and finished within 2 days, including a thorough clean up and final inspection. This would normally have been a 1-day job, but the customer elected to replace the whole plywood deck as part of the job. Karen and her husband decided to change the roofing material to Certainteed Landmark in Heather Blend (a brown variant). The new asphalt shingle increased the curb appeal of the Sterling single family home.
Recently, Jody and Karen hired SBE
for yet another project! Stay tuned for
our future post where we will highlight the new siding, gutters, and trim project.
SBE is a “Shingle Master” through
Certainteed, meaning we offer a 4-star warranty that is backed by Certainteed,
one of the largest shingle manufacturers in the world. Certainteed Landmark carries a 50-year,
non-prorated warranty for materials, as well as a 130-mph wind warranty. SBE also offers a 10 year “no questions
asked” workmanship warranty for this type of roof replacement. SBE offers 24-hour emergency roofing services
for all previous and existing roofing customers and we take pride in delivering
top-notch customer service.
If your home needs roofing, siding, windows, doors, or gutters, please reach out to SBE today! You can email us at [email protected] or call at 703.628.7663. Please mention the “Sterling Post” to receive $250 off your project. SBE offers financing and accepts all major credit cards.
